NoRMEO News:

These Request for Information (RFI) proposals for NoRMEO core sites to NEON Inc. and national RFIs for cross-domain infrastructure deployment and experiments using the NEON infrastructure have been submitted.  We have listed them here so you can see which core sites were proposed and the way we proposed to deploy the remaining moveable and mobile NEON infrastructure throughout the domain.

The proposed deployment of the infrastructure is similar to many of the discussions we have had over the past two years.  In summary, we were able to put forth a design that bridges both the shifts in climate and landuse within NoRMEO and will put us in a position to observe change and address key science questions over the next 30 years.

Sometime in late February the NEON Cores sites will be chosen by a panel and the final planning and costing for NEON will happen fast so stay tuned!

This meeting was held over two days.  Day 1 was a west-wide domain meeting with participants from CALEON, PNWREO, SWEON, NORMEO and IRON and the focus was on multi-domain RFI questions.  Day 2 was primarily NORMEO participants and the focus was on the Core site RFI.

Minutes of the meeting

December 12-13, 2005   Missoula, Montana

Several overviews of existing programs were presented to provide information on regional strengths and resources for NoRMEO.

A discussion resolved into three general questions that needed to be answered before NoRMEO could finalize an evaluation system and siting criteria--

  1. What exactly does NEON want / require?
  2. What are the key questions the region would want to address as part of NEON?
  3. How can NoRMEO be competitive?

Minutes of the meeting

September 16-17, 2005   Moscow, Idaho

The meeting opened with a summary of the current state of NEON, the role of the regional NEONS like ROMEO in the NEON planning phase, and a review of our adjacent regions.

Goals were presented and adopted as the mission statement (Thanks to ROMEO and MAREO for some of these goals)

Four main questions were discussed --

  1. What are the unique qualities of the major ecosystems in the Northern Rockies?
  2. What forecasts should we be able to make about these ecosystems in 2020?
  3. What observations and models are needed to support these forecasts?
  4. What infrastructure is needed to support these observations and models?
